The Hong Kong Museum of Art was honoured to receive an abundant collection of 20th-century Chinese painting and calligraphy from local collector Dr Leo Wong Kwai-kuen in late 2021. Marking the commencement of HKMoA's 60th anniversary this year, the exhibition showcases over 80 works from the Jingguanlou Collection that were completed by Zhu Qizhan (1892 – 1996) at different times in his life and that illustrate the artistic excellence that this virtuoso of the Shanghai School achieved over a hundred years. The exhibition explores the colour application approach behind Zhu's robust brushstrokes in the context of the reform of Chinese painting in the 20th century. As this year marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of Zhu, it also takes a retrospective look at his long journey as a painter.

Since the discovery of dinosaur fossils in the 19th century, palaeontologists have revealed an increasingly complex and accurate picture of these iconic animals from the deep past of our planet. It is only in the last few year, however, that some of the biggest discoveries have been made, revealing lost worlds filled with remarkable 'dragons' from deep time. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Science Museum will present a unique landmark dinosaur exhibition, showcasing eight of the most iconic creatures from the 'Golden Age of Dinosaurs' together for the first time: Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Allosaurus, Hesperosaurus, Diplodocus, Hatzegopteryx and a baby sauropod.

The "2022 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale" is jointly presented by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Government of the HKSAR, and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. It has built an important platform for the exchange among artists from Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China since 2008. This year's biennale has adopted the theme of "Perceptual & Intellectual", and is held at two stops in Beijing and Shenzhen. Over thirty artists or art groups from Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China were invited to take part in the biennale and form a parallel dialogue in three sections. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is honoured to once again co-organise this signature event. The Hong Kong section exhibition is curated by the Hong Kong Museum of Art in collaboration with Art Tech Partner, Mr Ng Tsz-kwan. It features artwork installations and interactive new media creations by six Hong Kong artists, namely Joseph Chan, Chris Cheung, Tung Wing-hong, Kenny Wong and duo Samuel Yip and Janice To. The exhibition aims to present how technology—from mechanics to electronics, digitalisation to artificial intelligence—can be applied and expanded to creative works, and explore how humans communicate with nature and the inner voice through a blend of arts, science and technology.

The exhibition is divided into two sections: “Connoisseurship” and “Collection”. Featuring 30 works from the Chih Lo Lou Collection, it highlights Ho Iu-kwong (1907 – 2006), the Master of Chih Lo Lou’s memorable personal stories as a collector, as well as his insights into the authentication and appreciation of painting and calligraphy. In the “Connoisseurship” section, visitors are introduced to various methods of authentication. Through an interactive game, they can unlock one clue after another in a work and learn about the story behind. Visitors are also invited to try their hand at authenticating the two copies of painting by applying the methods just learnt. By analysing the painting style, inscription, colophon and seals, they will seek to distinguish between authentic and forged artworks.

Stars rely solely on themselves to build their own images. Whether they are well styled or not—on camera or off—depends entirely on their own taste and skills.' Famed fashion designer William Tang wrote in 2002 that in 1950s Cantonese films, the best-dressed person is undoubtedly Fong Yim-fun! That inspired us to search in film for Fong's taste in fashion. We are blessed that Edith Cheung, Golden Horse Awards winner in Best Costume and Makeup Design and Best Film Art Direction as well as a curator who ventures between art and commerce, has participated in the preparation of this exhibition. We combed through dozens of Fong's films and selected several striking images of the actress that are expressed through fashion. It is our hope that audiences will be able to enjoy these beautiful spectacles while coming to an appreciation of Fong Yim-fun's sense of style and her talent in animating her characters through clothing.

Since 2001, vA! has organised the Art Specialist Course for people eager to devote themselves to the world of art, with the aim of nurturing local artists and art audiences. Students can receive professional training and practice under the supervision of experts to help them develop a personal portfolio. Since last year, the Art Specialist Course instructors have guided the young artists on a memorable learning journey. The Chinese Art Course focused mainly on Chinese calligraphy and painting, and investigated the role of traditional art in the contemporary world by adding modules related to technology and ink. The Sculpture Course included theoretical and practical training, guiding students to explore three-dimensional structures and contemporary sculpture. The fruitful outcome is presented in the graduation exhibition, with new visions from 19 newly trained artists to share their joy of creation.

The exhibition, featuring 27 works from the Xubaizhai collection, provides an opportunity to explore the essence of Chinese landscape paintings, as they invite you to walk through their scenery, view, travel and simply live in nature.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States launched Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 spacecraft in 1972 and 1973 respectively, with the aim of travelling through the asteroid belt to obtain pictures of Jupiter and Saturn, as well as studying the solar wind, cosmic rays and heliosphere, etc. Today, 50 years later, let us review the technology, journey and discoveries of the Pioneers and their implications to future space exploration in this exhibition.

The Hong Kong Film Archive is sharing with the public more wonderful tales about the great film company D & B! ‘More Brilliance, Still Different — The D & B Story Redux', the sequel to our 2020 exhibition, will focus on the magnificent people who made D & B possible, featuring oral history interviews with stars, directors and other filmmakers, complemented by seldom-seem artefacts such as stills, scripts, props and award trophies.

This exhibition is a refreshing highlight on painting assignments by Chin Kee, a Malaysia based student who trained under Chao Shao-an through correspondence between the 1950s and 1960s. The extraordinary display will help you see the art dialogues and actual exchange between the teacher Chao and the student Chin.

Marriage is an indispensable part of family life, and Chinese society attaches great importance to marriage traditions. Featuring more than 60 sets of invaluable artefacts meticulously selected from the Museum's wedding memorabilia, this exhibition reveals the traditional marriage rites and customs of local Chinese.

Chinese calligraphy is the only script-based form of art that has thrived for over a millennium in the course of human civilisation. From purely a medium of communication, it has evolved into an embodiment of abstract aesthetic that represents the calligrapher's spirit and sentiments. This exhibition features over seventy artworks by Hong Kong artists from the collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. By exploring the interplay between calligraphy, prose and poetry, dance, painting, and music, the exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to discover the essence of calligraphic works through the lens of their own experience and interests, while re-examining the significance of preserving our cultural tradition amid the constant advances of technology.

The Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware started the "Tea Ware by Hong Kong Potters Competition" in 1986, aiming to promote tea drinking culture and ceramic art in Hong Kong. This year marks the 12th edition of the Competition. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, a submission of 458 tea sets was received which is the highest ever recorded entries among the previous competitions. Among the 286 entrants, 13 winning awards and 79 participating artists were selected through adjudication. The exhibition features 96 sets of selected works created by the local potters.

Napp Studio, an architectural design studio, has designed a set of art furniture which embodies both aesthetics and pragmatism. The light and modular art furniture is highly reconfigurable and allows the public to appreciate architecture and surroundings of the art space in tranquility, and experience how design closely connects to everyday activities.

Oi! has extended its art space with a multi-purpose building and a vast outdoor area, and commissioned a local illustrator Carmen Ng to create a large-scale outdoor mural map that features the brand new space of Oi!. Through her delightful brushstrokes, the work marks the lively details of the brand new space of Oi! from an elevated angle.

Focusing on the theme "mutation of ideas in the digital city", the gigantic collective digital installation takes the audience on an immersive journey with a new genre, exploring the aesthetics and creativity of new media art.

An anamorphic artistic illusion exhibition will be created through collaboration with d'strict, an internationally renowned Korean art tech factory. Two anamorphic projection works will transform the Oi! Deck into a hyper-realistic three-dimensional space to push the boundaries of optical illusions with a mix of art and technology.

This exhibition showcases a wide variety of China trade art collections to reconstruct scenes of the bustling shopping paradise in Canton. What's more, visitors will immerse themselves in the interactive animations created by local animators the Tsui Brothers, as they go window-shopping down the memory lane while discovering the art and history of this thriving neighbourhood!

The Hong Kong Museum of Art is commemorating its 60th anniversary in 2022. To get into the spirit of this happy occasion, the exhibition echoes the HKMoA's 60th anniversary theme "Celebrating the Uncelebrated".

Created by new media artist Chu Lik-hang, Henry, "Portrait Play" is an interactive exhibition made up of images from HKMoA's diverse collections. Its set-up comprises a large LED screen, movable benches and three touchscreens.

In collaboration with the Bruce Lee Foundation, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum presents some 400 invaluable items of Bruce Lee memorabilia in the exhibition titled "A Man Beyond the Ordinary: Bruce Lee", with large-scale multimedia and interactive programmes. His films, martial arts achievements and life story show how Lee Jun-fon's perseverance gave birth to the legend that is Bruce Lee.

This exhibition, titled Hong Kong Pop 60+, focuses on the development of Hong Kong popular music, film, and television and radio programmes, as well as comics and toys, from the end of the Second World War to the early 2000s. It illustrates the development of Hong Kong popular culture, featuring more than 1,000 exhibits and introducing their social backgrounds and artistic features. The exhibition encourages visitors to explore Hong Kong's past, while inspiring us to preserve Hong Kong's diverse culture and create a better future.

Hong Kong has preserved a wide variety of periodic traditional events, including festivals, birthdays of deities, ancestral worship and the Jiao Festival. These events not only embrace our rich and long history, but are also a testimony to the folk wisdom of traditional craftsmanship and the vibrancy of folk culture. Some of these festivals and craftmanship have been inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Inventory of Hong Kong. The exhibition showcases a variety of ICH items associated with traditional festivals and craftsmanship in an innovative way, by presenting them according to four types of sounds, namely "vocal", "instrumental", "physical" and "situational". These different aspects refer, repectively, to the sounds produced by the throat, the clattering sounds generated by instruments, the sounds produced by body movement, and the noise of the hustle and bustle heard at different festive occasions. Through the display of the relevant crafts created, articles or tool used, and recordings and videos, visitors can experience the wide diversity of these events and appreciate the timeless ingenuity and perseverance embedded in Hong Kong's ICH.

Biodiversity is very important that it underpins ecosystem functions to sustain all living beings on Earth. The aim of the Biodiversity Gallery is to raise public awareness about the importance of biodiversity conservation. In the Gallery, you will be able to immerse yourself into different interesting habitats like forest or mangrove to experience their wonders; witness the rise and fall of species on the path of biological evolution; you can even become a scientist to experience the fun of conducting research and learn experimental techniques such as microscopy.

Exploring Earth's 4.6 billion years of history is a journey full of fun and surprise: How did Earth form? How does its interior work? What is plate tectonics? How are different types of rocks formed? The Earth Science Gallery allows all of us to learn more about our Mother Earth. The gallery has four themes featuring over 28 sets of interactive exhibits, models and installations which serve to explain the causes of natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, as well as the power of typhoons. The gallery will also walk you through the geology of Hong Kong over the past 400 million years and the stunning scenery of the Hong Kong Geopark. Don't miss the invaluable and colourful minerals and rock specimens.

The Hong Kong Museum of History is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation for the permanent exhibition. Before the new permanent exhibition is launched, we organise "Recreating a Classic: The Best Features of The Hong Kong Story" exhibition to showcase the essence of "The Hong Kong Story". Featuring about 460 sets of selected exhibits and 210 photos, the exhibition is composed of five sections including prehistoric Hong Kong and historical development, folk culture in Hong Kong, cession of Hong Kong and early growth of the city, Japanese occupation, modern metropolis and concludes with the return to the motherland in 1997. New multimedia programmes and photo-taking zones are featured for greater interaction and enjoyment, enabling visitors to revisit memories of old Hong Kong.

Professor Chao Shao-an immersed himself in the inspiration of nature throughout his life. With nature as his teacher, he observed the natural world meticulously, with a unique vision to discover the ultimate beauty. He captured its essence, using superb drawing skills to create unique works of art. His brushes created flowers in full bloom, dazzling in their brilliance. His favourite noble cicadas sing loudly and clearly in the summer willows, with red lychees in abundance, the fruit of the season. Depicting a rich autumn harvest, he painted fisherman along the reed shore. He admired the plum blossoms in moonlight and enjoyed the serenity of dreamlike winter snow.

The Gallery features more than 100 exhibits including early editions of Jin Yong's novels, invaluable manuscripts, documents and photos introducing the early career of Dr Cha (Jin Yong), the creative process behind his martial arts novels and the impact the novels have had on Hong Kong's popular culture. Through the interactive exhibits in the gallery, visitors may also enjoy excerpts of films and TV series adapted from Jin Yong's novels, along with theme songs [...]

Phase two features fine works of the applied arts. Foremost among them are two complete sets of porcelain Month Cups made in the imperial kiln for Emperor Kangxi. Each set consists of twelve cups made of eggshell porcelain, each cup painted with a flower of the month and accompanied by a poem. Other exhibits include jade carvings and accessories, some of which were kept by Dr Tsui in his office as personal favourites. Also featured are textile panels and wooden objects with semi-precious stones inlay. The Heritage Museum also features from the museum collection items of jade and gold to complement the display.

The permanent exhibition, housed in the Lyemun Redoubt on the hilltop, is made up of 11 thematic galleries converted from casemates to showcase the changes in Hong Kong's coastal defence and military affairs since the Tang Dynasty, as well as the history of Hong Kong's resistance against Japanese aggression. Diverse exhibits are displayed with textual and graphic illustrations, enriched by multi-media programmes.
