Tracing the Mark of an Era from the Tai Ping Theatre

Built in 1904 in the former "Tong West" area, the Tai Ping Theatre not only offered Cantonese opera stars a glamorous stage but also marked a new milestone of the development of Cantonese opera. The rebuilt Tai Ping Theatre in 1932, with a more westernised design and furnished with a sound-film projector as well as the latest sight-and-sound equipment, got on the sound-film bandwagon that was sweeping through the world in 1930s and managed to create its own momentum in the development of the entertainment industry.
