Hong Kong Museum of History I Recreating a Classic: The Best Features of “The Hong Kong Story”

Together the senior citizens and museum volunteers visited gallery and told their own Hong Kong stories. They also experienced some joyful moments in the settings of local tea house and restaurant with 5-senses interaction, and exchanges views about the exhibition.

Hong Kong Film Archive I ROAD (1959) (digital version)

Senior citizens and museum volunteers enjoyed a digitally conserved film together, following by a lively chit-chat hosted by reps from the Film Archive who shared about film conservation and some insider stories. A vintage box office was tailor-made for this engagement activity, which also brought participants back to cinemas in the olden days.

Hong Kong Heritage Museum I Hong Kong Pop 60+ exhibition

During the gallery visit, the senior citizens and youth volunteers had some inspiring dialogues on the topic of pop culture. Participants then attended a sharing by a veteran producer, and went through a trial run of TV production, which created a unique museum experience.

Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence I Listening to “The Story of Hong Kong Coastal Defence” at Lyemun Redoubt

Senior citizens and museum volunteers visited the city's only military museum, and understood further on “The Story of Hong Kong Coastal Defence” at the galleries converted from casemates. Exploring the Lyemun Redoubt on the hilltop, all participants at the event exchanged views about the exhibition under distinct themes.

In collaboration with the School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Listening team invited students to visit our museums and experience the museum tours designed for the senior citizens. They shared not only some observations about the tours, but also suggestions for promoting the museums. Designing with the users in mind, the students brought about interesting and innovative ideas.

Professional Training

In collaboration with the Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing (JCCPA), the Listening team provided museum staff members and volunteers a professional training of over 1000 hours, on “How to deliver better service to senior citizens with special needs in museum setting?”. The host, Chief Training Consultant of JCCPA, introduced the needs of senior citizens and people with dementia, importance of age-friendly community, as well as the concepts applied to design of exhibition facility and activities.
