Shimmering Night: A Dazzling Victoria Harbour
Victoria Harbour acts as a mesmerising reflection of Hong Kong’s vitality and prosperity. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is thrilled to present the grand outdoor art project “Art@Harbour” once again this year, following its successful debut in 2022. Starting from end of March, citizens and tourists along both sides of Victoria Harbour will be treated to a series of enchanting outdoor art installations and digital projections that fuse art, science and technology, offering a truly invigorating sensory experience.
Art@Harbour 2024
Presented by LCSD in collaboration with K11 group, Sino Group and First Initiative Foundation (FIF) which is also supported by the Mega Art and Cultural Events Fund of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the “Art@Harbour 2024” consists of different art projects organised independently by individual entities, creating a sensational visual feast on the waterfronts of Victoria Harbour.
The Art Promotion Office and Science Promotion Unit, under the purview of the LCSD, have invited international art collective teamLab, local art team LAAB Architects and artist Dylan Kwok to continue the theme of art and science from the previous edition. Together, they showcase an array of interactive installations from 25 March to 8 June at Tamar Park in Admiralty and the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section). Entitled “teamLab: Continuous” created by teamLab as well as “Science in Art” created by local art team LAAB Architects and artist Dylan Kwok, the interactive installations on display seamlessly blend the realms of art and science, serving as catalysts for cross-cultural encounters and exchanges. The aim is to allow the public to intimately engage with the artworks, fostering a newfound appreciation for the world of art. Each piece embodies a narrative of emotions and reason, expressing the profound connections and diverse relationships between humanity and the natural environment. By bridging the gap between people and nature, the exhibition invites visitors on a personal journey of self-discovery, offering a profound understanding of the beauty inherent in the natural world through interactive experiences and meaningful dialogue.
Whereas K11 Group presents Alicja Kwade’s sculpture “l'ordre des mondes (Totem)” in collaboration with Pace Gallery at the K11 MUSEA promenade from March 23 to November. This artwork, reflecting Kwade’s deep interest in time, space and science, features marble spheres symbolising planets intricately placed within a towering chair structure, juxtaposing the immense celestial bodies found in reality and exploring the relationship between human existence and the vast universe. K11 Group and Pace Gallery jointly funded and supported this year’s "Art@Harbour" project, adding an artistic atmosphere to the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and demonstrating the vitality of Victoria Harbour.
Sino Group in collaboration with HKWALLS, a local art organisation, presents an extraordinary digital art exhibition titled "Chromaflux", featuring digital moving images by five groups of local and international artists from Germany, France, the Czech Republic and Hong Kong at the Sino LuminArt Façade of Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre from 24 March to 8 May. The exhibition pushes the boundaries of creativity, blending the worlds of art, technology, and cultural diversity. This one-of-a-kind exhibition showcases a fusion of vibrant colors, dynamic visuals, and innovative digital techniques, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle that will leave visitors spellbound, and to transform the Tsim Sha Tsui East promenade into a canvas for the street artists to display their mesmerizing digital creations.
FIF in collaboration with the Van Gogh Heritage Foundation, presents “Voyage with Van Gogh” – a public art initiative featuring an outdoor multi-sensory LED art installation at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza from 28 March to 31 May. Inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings and the iconic Hong Kong Victoria Harbour, Spanish new digital art studio VISURA Studio and artist Vritis have created a digital artwork “Cycles” in front of the historic Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower, takes the viewers on a voyage of artistic exploration. Adding to the experience, FIF presents the original musical composition "Rain or Shine". Composed by Leon Ko, produced by Chiu Tsang Hei, and performed by Niu Niu and Wang Liang, this harmonious collaboration enhances the visual masterpiece, creating an unforgettable sensory experience for all and converting the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower into a canvas of light and creativity. This project is also supported by the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
Through the convergence of art and science, the “Art@Harbour 2024” aims to provide citizens and tourists with a rich, immersive, multidimensional experience while discovering the new vitality and positive energy emanating from Hong Kong.
