About Exhibition
Curatorial Concept
Science and art are often seen as distinct disciplines. But there are indeed instances where they intersect and influence one another. Light may be a subject of science, as in the study of the nature and properties of light. But it may also be an art, as artworks to present the concept of light or display captivating lighting effects.
With the theme of exploration of the nature and properties of light, the Science Promotion Unit (“SPU”) invites the local art group LAAB Architects and Kwok Dylan to create two sets of art installations, namely Harbour Cup and Schrödinger’s Bed. Harbour Cup is an artwork inspired by table soccer. When the ball is kicked, the movement triggers the sensors embedded in the artwork, lighting up the trajectory of the ball at night. Unlike regular table soccer, the players need to negotiate and decide how they want to play the game, be it competition or collaboration.
The adjacent Schrödinger’s Bed consists of nine fun-looking art installations with three cats lying in frames while three others sitting in similar settings. Visitors can observe the cats with cameras and open their mind to the thought experiment conceived by the physicist Erwin Schrödinger.
Through these playful and creative installations that integrate science and art, we hope to stimulate visitors’ curiosity to explore the science behind the artwork and encourage people to collaborate and establish new connections with each other.
