Joining hands with different artists, it is hoped to stimulate a discussion about those practices by asking questions – about ideologies in media and art in a constantly changing sociocultural environment, about how media relate to contemporary art practices and how they cultivate aesthetic values and manifest cultural content, about the possibilities and capacity of media art, and about what kind of impact media will have on art practices today and in the future.

"Listen" to a Film - Live Scoring Performance
Early cinema was silent. However, there were screenings at which musicians performed live to accompany the images with music that rides on the mood – melancholic melodies with depressing scenes or amusing tunes at comedic moments. When cinema has entered the sound era with synchronised recorded sound, film scores have taken over the role of live music to enhance and intensify the mood and feeling of a film. Students of Higher Diploma in Digital Music and Media from the Hong Kong Design Institute will perform a live scoring session, accompanying the same scene with different music to demonstrate how music can impact on the audience's perception of a film.

A Different Cinematic Voice - Sound Effect Workshop
A Different Cinematic Voice - Sound Effect Workshop
Footsteps of stalkers in thrillers, clashing of weapons in martial arts movies, roaring noises of engines in action films…all these were not recorded live in the past. Owing to technical limitations, voices of the cast and all the sound effects were added during the post-production stage. Todays, sound effects can not only help enhance sense of realism in film productions, but also create more exciting and tension-filled atmospheres for the films. The audience can also have a taste of being a sound designer.
